Our story begins on the magnificent Amalfi coast of Italy. Two young girls, Amalia and Laura Di Luccia, grew up on the kitchen floor of Ill Cefalo (the gray mullet), a small restaurant and hotel in the village of Positano on the southern coast. From the time that they could push a broom, they were working and learning the family business. Their father never hired an employee until all the children had grown up and left. They remember watching their mother and father in the kitchen preparing polenta, making pasta, and so many other tasty foods. As they became adults, the two had both moved to California. Each year, they would return home to help in the family-run restaurant.

In 1997, Amalia joined her sister, Laura, and Laura's chef husband, Jorge Ramirez, and opened their own restaurant in Cardiff by the Sea in San Diego, California. They wanted to share their culture and their passion with the world. Cardiff reminded them of the coastal city of Positano. This inspired them to name their new venture Trattoria Positano. With Trattoria Positano, they wanted to capture the essence of southern coastal cuisine. From the handmade Pastas to the freshly baked Breads. From the delectable Desserts made daily to the authentic atmosphere. When you walk into Trattoria Positano, you feel the energy. You feel the culture. You can smell the incredible food cooking. You can see the hustle and bustle of an Italian restaurant. You can taste some of the finest wines. You receive the warm welcomes as if you were family.

After a year and a half of success, they decided to expand and share their creations with a new area. This time, sister, Caterina partnered with her family to open a Hillcrest Restaurant in San Diego. Just up from Downtown San Diego, This new restaurant has captured the same essence of it's Cardiff by the Sea sibling. Trattoria Positano in Hillcrest has also received rave reviews. This new venture is still family owned and operated. The family loves what they do. They are active locally and love to share their passion with others.
